April 24, 2012 R1 Game 6: Devils Force Game 7, WIN 3-2 in OT
The New Jersey Devils Defeated the Florida Panthers 3-2 in
overtime on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the Prudential Center to force a game 7
in their Stanley Cup Playoffs Quarterfinals matchup.
Steve Bernier got the Devils on the board first, with a goal that
beat Scott Clemmensen at 16:37 of the first period. Bernier's second
goal of the post-season was assisted by Ryan Carter and Peter Harrold.
Ilya Kovalchuk gave the Devils a 2-0 lead with a goal at 4:21 of
the second period. Travis Zajac and Petr Sykora assisted on Kovalchuk's
third goal of the playoffs.
Kris Versteeg beat Martin Brodeur at 7:05 and Sean Bergeheim
scored at 12:49 of the second period to tie the game.
Neither team scored in the third period, forcing sudden-death overtime.
Travis Zajac did not let the overtime go too long, when he scored at
5:39 to force a game 7. Ilya Kovalchuk and Zach Parise assisted on
Zajac's third goal of the playofffs.
