January 31, 2012Game 49: Devils Beat Rangers 4-3 in Shootout
The New Jersey Devils defeated the New York Rangers, 4-3 in a
shootout at the Prudential Center on Tuesday, January 31, 2012.
Anton Stralman beat Martin Brodeur with just 33 seconds remaining
in the first period to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.
Zach Parise tied the game with a goal that beat Martin Biron at
8:20 of the second period. Dainius Zubrus was credited with the only
assist on Parise's 16th goal of the season.
Brian Boyle put the Rangers ahead again with a goal at 2:37 of
the third period.
A power-play goal from Ilya Kovalchuk at 15:25 evened the score,
2-2. Patrik Elias and David Clarkson assisted on Kovalchuk's 20th goal
of the season.
Michael Del Zotto put the Rangers ahead once again with a goal
just 36 seconds after Kovalchuk's.
David Clarkson tied the game with just 48 seconds remaining in
regulation time, forcing an overtime. Clarkson's 17th goal of the season
was assisted by Andy Greene and Adam Larsson.
Neither team scored in the overtime, sending the game to a
shootout. Ilya Kovalchuk was the only player to score in the shootout,
giving the Devils a 4-3 victory.
