October 13, 2011 Game 3: Devils Defeat Kings 2-1 in Shootout
The New Jersey Devils beat the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 in a
shootout at the Prudential Center on Thursday, October 13, 2011.
Simon Gagne beat Martin Brodeur after a defensive breakdown just
1:47 into the first period.
Patrik Elias tied the game, beating Jonathan Quick at 13:03.
Elias' first goal of the season was assisted by Petr Sykora and Zach
Parise.
Martin Brodeur had to be strong in the first period, and was.
Unfortunately making a number of incredible saves in series, caused
injury. After a brief break in play, he stayed in goal and kept LA from
scoring again, but Johan Hedberg started the second period in net for New
Jersey.
The second, third, and overtime periods were scoreless, forcing
the game to be decided by a shootout. The Devils victory was ensured by
Hedberg's saves on Simon Gagne and Anze Kopitar and by goals from Ilya
Kovalchuk and Zach Parise.
