The New Jersey Devils beat the Islanders 3-2 in overtime at home
on Saturday, March 12, 2011.
Jacob Josefson scored his first career NHL goal when he put the
puck off Al Montoya and into the back of the Islander net just 1:57 into the
first period. David Clarkson and Anton Volchenkov assisted on the
The Devils outshot the Islanders 8-3 in the first period, which
ended with New Jersey leading 1-0.
Blake Comeau beat Martin Brodeur short-handed at 1:13 of the
second period to tie the game. John Tavares scored at 6:46 to give the
Islanders a 2-1 lead.
The Devis outshot the Islanders 9-6 in the second period, but
trailed 2-1 after two periods of play.
David Clarkson scored at 5:42 of the third period to tie the game
2-2. Clarkson's 10th goal of the season was assisted by Mattias Tedenby
and Jacob Josefson.
The Devils outshot the Islanders 15-6 in the third period, but
regulation time ended with the score tied - forcing overtime.
Anssi Salmela scored at 3:09 of the overtime period to win the
game for New Jersey. Mattias Tedenby and Patrik Elias assisted on
Salmela's first goal of the season.
