March 04, 2011 Game 64: BELIEVE. Devs Defeat Pens 2-1 in OT
The New Jersey Devils skated to a 2-1 overtime victory over the
Pittsburgh Penguins at The Rock on Friday, March 4, 2011.
Travis Zajac got himself 2/3 of the way to a Gordie Howe Hat
Trick (with Howe in the building), by beating Brent Johnson at 3:43 of the
second period. Zajac fought Kris Letang at 6:14 of the first period.
Zajac's 10th goal of the season was assisted by Nick Palmieri and
Andy Greene.
Tyler Kennedy took advantage of a Devils turnover and put the
puck behind Martin Brodeur at 5:58 of the second period.
Regulation time ended with the teams still tied at one goal
apiece. Ilya Kovalchuk scored a power-play goal at 4:35 of the OT to win
the game for New Jersey. Kovalchuk's 23rd goal of the season was
assisted by Patrik Elias and Brian Rolston.
