Game 43: Devils BEAT Lightning 5-2

    The New Jersey Devils defeated the Lightning in Tampa Bay on Friday, January 14, 2011.

    Steven Stampkos beat Martin Brodeur on a power-play at 5:06 of the first period to give the Ligtning a 1-0 lead.

    Ilya Kovalchuk tied the game with a goal that beat Dwayne Roloson at 7:59.   Travis Zajac assisted on Kovalchuk's 11th goal of the season.

    The Devils took a 2-1 lead with a goal from Brian Rolston at 9:19.   Dainius Zubrus ws credited with the only assist on Rolston's third goal of the season.

    At 11:44 Patrik Elias scored the Devils third straight goal to give the Devils a 3-1 lead.   Elias' 10th goal of the season was assisted by Andy Greene and Brian Rolston.

    Travis Zajac added a short-handed goal at 15:54 to give the Devils a commanding three goal lead.   Colin White assisted on Zajac's seventh goal of the season.

    Dan Ellis tookover in the Tampa net, as Roloson was pulled after Zajac's goal.

    The first period ended with the Devils leading 4-1.   The shots were even, 9 apiece, in the first 20 minutes of play.

    Martin St. Louis beat Martin Brodeur on a breakaway at 14:55 of the second period to cut New Jersey's lead to two goals.

    The Lightning outshot the Devils 11-10 in the second period, which ended with New Jersey leading 4-2.

    Ilya Kovalchuk scored his second goal of the game at 13:40 of the third period to give the Devils a 5-2 lead.   The goal was scored unassisted.
