December 04, 2010 Game 26: Devils Fall to Flyers 3-5
The New Jersey Devils lost 3-5 to the Flyers in Philadelphia on
Saturday, December 4, 2010.
Ilya Kovalchuk beat Sergei Bobrovsky on a power-play at 3:02 of
the first period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Jamie Langenbrunner and
Patrik Elias assisted on Kovalchuk's fifth goal of the season.
James van Riemsdyk tied the game with a goal that beat Johan
Hedberg just 17 seconds after Kovalchuk's goal.
The Devils took the lead again with a goal from Travis Zajac at
12:55. Zajac's third goal of the season was assisted by Jamie
Langenbrunner and Colin White.
The Flyers outshot the Devils 11-9 in the first period, which
ended with the Devils leading, 2-1.
Claude Giroux tied the game with a goal just 58 seconds into the
second period.
The second period ended with the teams tied, 2-2. The
Flyers outshot the Devils 14-4 in the period.
Mike Richards gave the Flyers their first lead of the game with a
goal at 3:37 of the third period. Danny Briere made it 4-2 with a goal
at 8:07.
Patrik Elias scored a power-play goal with 44 seconds remaining
in regulation time to give the Devils hope. Travis Zajac and Jason
Arnott assisted on Elias' fourth goal of the season.
With about 10 seconds left in regulation time, Mike Richards
whacked Jamie Langenbrunner in the face - a CLEAR penalty that was not called.
The ensuing play resulted in an empty net goal for Philadelphia just
seconds later.
