April 16, 2010 R1 G2: Devils Beat Flyers/Officials 5-3
The New Jersey Devils overcame terrible officiating in the
second game of their first round matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers on
Friday, April 16, 2010. Despite numerous bad calls, the Devils defeated
the Flyers 5-3 at the Prudential Center to even the series, 1-1.
A short-handed goal from Zach Parise just 2:45 into the first
period sent the crowd at the Prudential Center into a craze. Parise's
first goal of the post-season was assisted by Patrik Elias.
Arron Asham beat Martin Brodeur at 9:33 to tie the game. A
power-play goal from Claude Giroux at 15:30 gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead.
The Devils outshot the Flyers 11-7 in the first period, which
ended with Philadelphia leading 2-1.
Colin White beat Brian Boucher at 3:44 of the second period to even the
score. Ilya Kovalchuk and Mile Mottau assisted on White's goal.
Andy Greene added a power-play goal at 13:25 to regain the lead
for New Jersey. Greene's first goal of the playoffs was assisted by
Patrik Elias and Ilya Kovalchuk.
Chris Pronger scored on a power-play at 18:48 to again tie the
game.
The Devils outshot the Flyers 16-12 in the second period, which
ended with the teams tied, 3-3.
Dainius Zubrus' goal at 15:56 of the third period caused the
crowd to erupt. Zach Parise and Patrik Elias assisted on the go-ahead
goal.
Ilya Kovalchuk sealed the Devils win with an empty net goal at
19:27. Jamie Langenbrunner was credited with an assist.
