March 25, 2010 Game 73: Rangers Edge Devils with 4-3 Shootout Win
The New Jersey Devils lost a 4-3 shootout game at home to the New
York Rangers on Thursday, March 25, 2010.
Ilya Kovalchuk beat Hanky Lundqvist at 5:21 of the first period
to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Kovalchuk's 38th goal of the season was
assisted by Brian Rolston.
The Devils led 1-0 after 20 minutes of play. The Devils
outshot the Rangers 9-4 in the period.
Brandon Dubinsky beat Martin Brodeur on a power-play at 7:32 of
the second period to tie the game, 1-1.
The second period ended with the score tied 1-1. The
Rangers outshot the Devils 14-12 in the period.
Patrik Elias scored at 3:53 of the third period to regain the
lead for New Jersey. David Clarkson and Dainius Zubrus assisted on
Elias' 14th goal of the season.
The score was tied again when Artem Anisimov scored at
9:40.
Jamie Langenbrunner scored at 12:37 to once again give New Jersey
the lead. Patrik Elias and Andy Greene assisted on Langenbrunner's 17th
goal of the season.
With the Rangers net empty and an extra attacker, Chris Drury
scored at 19:43 to send the game to overtime. Neither team scored in the
OT period, forcing the shootout - which New York won.
