The New Jersey Devils skated to a 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh
Penguins at the Rock on Wednesday, March 17, 2010. The win means New
Jersey swept Pittsburgh, winning all six regular season meetings this
Chris Kunitz beat Martin Brodeur at 4:01 of the first period to
give Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead.
Dainius Zubrus put the puck into the Penguins net at 10:51 to tie
the game. Zubrus' seventh goal of the season was assisted by Patrik
Paul Martin, in his first game back after missing months with a
broken forearm, scored at 18:18 to give the Devils a 2-1 lead. Martin's
first goal of the season was scored unassisted.
The Penguins outshot the Devils 11-9 in the first period, which
ended with New Jersey leading 2-1.
Patrik Elias scored an unassisted short-handed goal at 3:09 of
the second period to give the Devils a two goal lead.
The Devils again chased Marc-Andre Fleury from the Pittsburgh net
when Zach Parise scored at 10:17. Parise's 33rd goal of the season was
assisted by Travis Zajac and Martin Skoula.
The Devils outshot the Penguins 6-5 in the second period, which
ended with the Devils leading 4-1.
Ruslan Fedotenko made it a two goal game with a goal at 5:23 of
the third period.
Rob Niedermayer sealed the win for New Jersey with an empty-net
goal at 18:47. Zach Parise assisted on Niedermayer's 10th goal of the
