January 02, 2010 Game 40: Captain Tricky, Devils Defeat Wild 5-3
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Wild 5-3 in Minnesota on
Saturday, January 2, 2010. Jamie Langenbrunner scored his first career
hat trick.
The Wild outshot the Devils 11-6 in the first period, though
neither team scored.
Dean McAmmond beat Niklas Backstrom at 5:13 of the second period
to break the scoreless deadlock. Patrik Elias was credited with the only
assist on McAmmond's fourth goal of the season.
Jamie Langenbrunner added a power-play goal just 1:44 later to
give New Jersey a 2 goal lead. Patrik Elias and Vladimir Zharkov assisted
on Langenbrunner's 11th goal of the season.
Eric Belanger tipped the puck past Martin Brodeur at 9:08 to get
the Wild on the board. Mikko Koivu scored a short-handed goal at 19:22
to tie the game, 2-2.
Jamie Langenbrunner scored his second goal of the game on a
power-play at 19:56. Mike Mottau was credited with the only assist on
the goal.
The second period ended with New Jersey leading, 3-2. The
Wild outshot the Devils 9-8 in the period.
Jay Pandolfo made it 4-2 with a goal at 11:35 of the third
period. Rob Niedermayer and Patrik Elias assisted on Pandolfo's third
goal of the season.
Andrew Brunette got the Wild back within a goal of New Jersey at
16:09.
Jamie Langenbrunner completed a hat trick with an empty net goal
at 19:43 No assists were credited on the goal.
