December 30, 2009 Game 38: Devils Shutdown Penguins 2-0
The New Jersey Devils shutout the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-0 at the
Prudential Center on Wednesday, December 30, 2009. The shutout pushed
Martin Brodeur's all-time leading shutouts count to 105.
Niclas Bergfors gave the Devils a 1-0 lead early, beating Brent
Johnson just 1:48 into the first period. Travis Zajac and Andy Greene
assisted on Bergfors' 13th goal of the season.
The Devils outshot the Penguins 12-9 in the first period, which
ended with New Jersey leading 1-0.
Jamie Langenbrunner scored a short-handed empty net goal with 12
seconds remaining in the game to make it a 2-0 victory. Rob Niedermayer
was credited with the only assist on Langenbrunner's ninth of the
season.
