November 14, 2009 Game 18: Devils Extend Streak to 8, 5-2 Win Over Caps
The New Jersey Devils moved into first place in the Eastern
Conference with a 5-2 win at home over the Washington Capitals on Saturday,
November 14, 2009. The victory was the eighth straight for New
Jersey.
Tomas Fleischmann gave the Caps an early 1-0 lead with a
power-play goal at 4:15 of the first period. Mathieu Perreault beat
Martin Brodeur at 5:02 to make it a 2-0 Washington lead.
Colin White scored his first goal of the season at 9:47 to get
the Devils on the board. Jamie Langenbrunner and Dainius Zubrus
assisted on the goal.
The Capitals led 2-1 when the horn sounded to end the first
period. The Caps outshot the Devils 11-7 in the period.
A power-play goal from Jamie Langenbrunner that beat Jose
Theodore at 5:44 of the second period tied the game. Cory Murphy and
Niclas Bergfors assisted on Langenbrunner's fourth goal of the season.
Zach Parise hit double digits in goals scored at 14:40.
Parise's 10th goal of the season was assisted by Travis Zajac.
Matt Halischuk scored his first career NHL goal at 19:04 to make
it a 4-2 Devils lead. Niclas Bergfors and Tim Sestito assisted on the
goal.
The shots were even, 10-10 in the second period, which ended with
the Devils leading, 4-2.
" Cory Murphy made it 5-2 with a goal at 3:15 of the third
period. Travis Zajac was credited with the only assist on Murphy's second goal
of the season.
