Game 78: Devils Snap Streak with 5-4 OT Win Over Bolts

    The New Jersey Devils defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-4 in overtime at the Prudential Center on Friday, April 3, 2009.   Martin Brodeur was honored (for being the NHL's winningest goaltender of all time) prior to the start of the game.   He was supposed to have the night off, but had to takeover for Kevin Weekes in net after he suffered a knee injury early in the second period.

    Evgeny Artyukhin beat Kevin Weekes just 1:38 into the first period to put the Devils in an early hole.

    The first period ended with the Lightning leading the Devils, 1-0.   The Lightning outshot the Devils 11-10 in the period.

    Kevin Weekes suffered an apparent knee injury just 57 seconds into the second period, and had to leave the game.   Martin Brodeur was forced to make his way to the Devils net, on what was supposed to be a night off.

    Steven Stamkos beat Brodeur on a power-play at 5:09 to give Tampa Bay a 2-0 lead.

    Lightning netminder Karri Ramo threw his stick at the puck to stop a Devils goal at 13:05 - this action caused the be awarded a penalty shot.   Brendan Shanahan took advantage of this opportunity and got the Devils on the board with a penalty shot goal.

    Jay Pandolfo tied the game with a goal that beat Ramo at 14:50.   Jamie Langenbrunner and Johnny Oduya assisted on Pandolfo's fifth goal of the season.

    Jamie Langenbrunner scored a power-play goal at 18:29 to give the Devils their first lead of the game.   Brian Rolston and Zach Parise assisted on Langenbrunner's 27th goal of the season.

    The second period ended with the Devils leading the Lightning, 3-2.   The Devils outshot the Lightning 13-5 in the period.

    Ryan Malone scored an unassisted goal at 2:41 of the third period to tie the game, 3-3.

    Jamie Langenbrunner scored his second goal of the game at 10:35.   Travis Zajac and Zach Parise assisted on the goal.

    Martins Karsums beat Brodeur at 14:06 to tie the game, again.

    Regulation time ended with the game tied, 4-4.   Zach Parise buried the puck at 1:21 of the overtime period to finally snap the Devils six game losing streak.
