March 18, 2009 Game 70: Devils Lose 2-4 in Raleigh
The New Jersey Devils lost 2-4 to the Hurricanes in Raleigh
on Wendesday, March 18, 2009.
Anton Babchuk beat Kevin Weekes at 9:56 of the first period on a
power-play to give the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead. The Hurricanes outshot the
Devils 18-9 in the first - which ended with Carolina leading 1-0.
Eric Staal scored a power-play goal at 1:25 of the second period
to give the Canes a 2-0 lead.
Zach Parise scored a power-play goal that beat Cam Ward at 13:22.
Patrik Elias and Brian Rolston assisted on Parise's 41st goal of the
season.
Another power-play goal came from Anton Babchuk at 19:22 to make
it 3-1 Hurricanes. 3-1 is how the period ended - The Devils outshot the
Canes 17-6 in the second.
Sergei Samsonov scored the first even-strength goal of the game
at 12:14 of the third period to make it 4-1 Carolina.
Brian Gionta scored at 17:43 on a power-play to get the Devils
within 2 goals of the Canes. Dainius Zubrus assisted on Gionta's 17th
of the season.
