March 17, 2009 Game 69: BRODEUR STANDS ALONE! 3-2 Win Makes 552!
Martin Brodeur notched win 552 on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, when
he and the New Jersey Devils defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 at the
Prudential Center. He now stands alone, as the winningest NHL netminder
of all time, surpassing Patrick Roy's 551 wins. Patrik Elias passed a
major milestone as well - with an assist he became the all-time leading Devils'
point-scorer (702).
Jamie Langenbrunner gave the Devils an early 1-0 lead with a goal
that beat Cristobal Huet just 38 seconds in. Zach Parise was credited
with the only assist on Langenbrunner's 24th goal of the season.
The Devils took a 2-0 lead with a goal from Travis Zajac at 6:01.
Zajac's 20th goal of the season was assisted by Zach Parise and Paul
Martin.
The first period ended with New Jersey leading, 2-0. The
Blackhawks outshot the Devils 14-9 in the period.
Brian Gionta scored a short-handed goal at 16:56 of the second
period. Patrik Elias and Mike Mottau assisted on Gionta's 16th goal of
the season.
Cameron Barker beat Martin Brodeur on a power-play just 32
seconds after Gionta's goal to get Chicago on the board.
The Devils outshot the Blackhawks 16-13 in the second period,
which ended with the Devils leading 3-1.
Dustin Byfluglien gave Chicago hope with a goal at 17:57 of the
third period, but the hawks were shutdown.
