February 28, 2009 Game 62: Devils Beat Panthers 7-2
The New Jersey Devils skated to a 7-2 home victory over the
Florida Panthers on Saturday, February 28, 2009.
Zach Parise gave the Devils an early lead with a goal that beat
Craig Anderson just 1:18 in. Jamie Langenbrunner and Paul Martin
assisted on Parise's 37th goal of the season.
Parise made it a two goal lead with a great goal at 16:53.
He flicked the puck over the sticks of the Florida defenders then shot the puck
past Anderson for his 38th of the season.
The Devils outshot the Panthers 16-7 in the first period, which
ended with the Devils leading the Panthers, 2-0.
3:51 into the second period, Brendan Shanahan scored to make it a
3-0 lead. David Clarkson and Brian Rolston assisted on Shanahan's fourth
goal of the season.
Travis Zajac scored a power-play goal at 15:56 to give New Jersey
a 4-0 lead. Zajac's 18th goal of the season was assisted by Zach Parise
and Patrik Elias.
24 seconds after Zajac's goal, Brian Rolston made it 5-0 with his
12th goal of the season. Brian Gionta and Colin White assisted on the
goal.
Ville Peltonen ruined Martin Brodeur's shutout bid with a goal at
18:30, to get Florida on the board.
David Clarkson scored at 19:35 to make it a 6-1 Devils lead.
Brendan Shanahan and Johnny Oduya assisted on Clarkson's 14th goal of
the season.
The Devils outshot the Panthers 17-6 in the second period, which
ended with the Devils leading, 6-1.
Brian McCabe beat Brodeur at 14:46 of the third period to cut the
Devils lead to 4 goals.
Dainius Zubrus scored his 13th goal of the season at 17:21 to
make it a 7-1 lead. Patrik Elias and Brian Gionta assisted on the
goal.
