February 11, 2009 Game 55: Devils Beat Islanders 4-2
The New Jersey Devils skated to a 4-2 victory over the New York
Islanders at the Prudental Center on Wednesday, February 11, 2009. The
Devils now lead the season series 4-0.
Radek Martinek beat Kevin Weeks just 2:32 into the first period
to give the Islanders an early 1-0 lead.
Zach Parise scored his 33rd goal of the season (career high) at
18:39 to tie the game, 1-1. Paul Martin and Johnny Oduya assisted on the
goal.
The first period ended with the teams tied, 1-1. The
Devils outshot the Islanders 13-6 in the period.
Kyle Okposo scored a power-play goal at 6:15 of the second period
to give the Islanders a 2-1 lead.
Jamie Langenbrunner answered with a power-play goal for New
Jersey at 16:21. Paul Martin and Zach Parise assisted on Langenbrunner's
16th goal of the season.
The Devils again outshot the Islanders by a wide margin (18-9) in
the second period, but again the score was tied, 2-2.
12:35 into the third period, Zach Parise added a power-play goal
for New Jersey to give the Devils their first lead of the game. Parise's
second goal of the game was assisted by Travis Zajac and Paul Martin.
Langenbrunner put the puck into an empty Islander net at 18:57
to make it 4-2 New Jersey. Zach Parise and Travis Zajac assisted on the
goal.
