February 09, 2009 Game 54: Devils Shutout Rangers 3-0
The New Jersey Devils shutout the New York Rangers 3-0 at the
Prudential Center on Monday, February 9, 2009.
The season series is tied, 2-2 - but their last two meetings were
8-5 and 4-2 Devils victories in December 2008.
The Devils outshot the Rangers 13-7 in the first period, but
neither team scored a goal in the first 20 minutes of play.
Bobby Holik beat Henrik Lundqvist at 8:00 of the second period to
give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Brendan Shanahan and Patrik Elias assisted
on Holik's fourth goal of the season.
Zach Parise added a power-play goal just 1:27 later to increase
the Devils lead to two goals. Travis Zajac and Jamie Langenbrunner were
credited with assists on Parise's 31st of the season.
The second period ended with the Devils leading 2-0. New
Jersey outshot New York 11-9 in the period.
Zach Parise added an empty net goal at 18:17 of the third period
to seal the win for New Jersey. Jamie Langenbrunner and Travis
Zajac.
