January 27, 2009 Game 48: Devils Victorious in Ottawa: 4-1 Win
The New Jersey Devils skated to a 4-1 victory north of the border
over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday, January 27, 2009. The Devils now
lead the season series, 3-0. The last regular season matchup between the
teams will be in Ottawa on April 9.
Patrik Elias beat Alex Auld at 4:54 of the first period to give
New Jersey a 1-0 lead. Brian Gionta was credited with the only assist on
Elias' 21st goal of the season.
The Devils outshot the Senators 11-8 in the first period, which
ended with the Devils leading, 1-0.
Alexandre Picard put the puck past Scott Clemmensen on a
power-play at 10:54 of the second period, to tie the game, 1-1.
A goal from Jamie Langenbrunner at 14:19 gave the Devils a 2-1
lead. Langenbrunner's ninth goal of the season was assisted by Travis
Zajac and Johnny Oduya.
The second period ended with the Devils leading 2-1. The
shots were even, 7-7 in the second period.
Langenbrunner scored his second goal of the game just 19 seconds
into the third period. Zach Parise and Mike Mottau assisted on the
goal.
Brendan Shanahan gave the Devils a 4-1 lead with a goal at 11:16.
Shanahan's second goal of the season was assisted by Mike Rupp and
Travis Zajac.
