January 17, 2009 Game 45: Devils Top Islanders 3-1
The New Jersey Devils beat the Islanders 3-1 in New York on
on Saturday, January 17, 2009.
Travis Zajac gave the Devils a 1-0 lead with a short-handed goal
that beat Yann Danis at 6:06 of the first period. Zach Parise was
credited with the only assist on Zajac's 14th goal of the season.
The Devils outshot the Islanders 13-7 in the first period, which
ended with them leading 1-0.
Zach Parise added a power-play goal just 57 seconds into the
second period to make it 2-0 New Jersey. Jamie Langenbrunner and Patrik
Elias assisted on Parise's 26th goal of the season.
David Clarkson scored his ninth goal of the season at 4:58.
John Madden and Brian Rolson assisted on the goal.
The second period ended with New Jersey leading 3-0. The
shots were even, 14-14 in the period.
Blake Comeau got the Islanders on the board with a goal that beat
Scott Clemmensen at 10:35 of the third period.
