January 10, 2009 Game 41: Devils Beat Kings 5-1
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Kings 5-1 in Los Angeles on
on Saturday, January 10, 2009. This game was the Devils last game of the
first half of the 2008-2009 season and the first of a six game road
trip.
Travis Zajac gave the Devils a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at
14:02 of the first period. Jamie Langenbrunner and Patrik Elias assisted
on Zajac's 11th goal of the season.
The Devils outshot the Kings 10-7 in the first period, which
ended with New Jersey leading 1-0.
Patrik Elias put the puck past Jonathan Quick just 1:02 into the
second period on a power-play to give the Devils a 2-0 lead. Travis
Zajac assisted on Elias' 19th goal of the season.
Zach Parise scored his 100th career goal at 2:18, increasing the
Devils lead to three goals. Parise's goal was scored unassisted.
The Kings outshot the Devils 16-8 in the second period, but the
Devils led 3-0 after the first 40 minutes of game play.
Derek Armstrong got the Kings on the scoreboard with a goal that
beat Kevin Weeks at 1:17 of the third period.
Brian Rolston scored a power-play goal at 8:29 to regain the
three goal lead for New Jersey. Rolston's seventh goal of the season
was assisted by Brian Gionta and Dainis Zubrus.
Jamie Langenbrunner scored at 10:58, to give New Jersey a 5-1
lead. Travis Zajac and Zach Parise assisted on Langenbrunner's eighth
goal og the season.
