December 16, 2008 Game 28: Devils Fall To Leafs, 2-3 In Shootout
The New Jersey Devils lost 2-3 in Toronto to the Maple Leafs in a
shootout on Tuesday, December 16, 2008.
Mike Rupp gave the Devils a 1-0 lead with a goal that beat Vesa
Toskala just 1:49 into the first period. Rupp's third goal of the season
was scored unassisted.
Jay Leach fought Andre Deveaux at 4:08, it was his second fight
in the last two games.
The first period ended with New Jersey leading, 1-0. The
Devils outshot the Maple Leafs 9-5 in the period and each team was 0-1 on the
power-play.
Nik Antropov beat Scott Clemmensen at 7:24 of the second period
to tie the game, 1-1. Jeremy Williams gave the Leafs their first lead of
the game with a goal at 15:06.
Zach Parise added a power-play goal for New Jersey with 20
seconds remaining in the second period to tie the game. Patrik Elias and
Paul Martin assisted on Parise's 17th goal of the season.
The Leafs outshot the Devils 10-9 in the second period, which
ended with the teams tied, 2-2.
The Leafs outshot the Devils 9-4 in the third period, though
neither team scored, forcing a 5 minute 4 on 4 overtime period.
