February 23, 2008 Game 62: Devils Beat Islanders 4-2
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Islanders 4-2 at home on
Saturday, February 23, 2008. The win was the first of the season (in
6 meetings) for the Devils.
&nbs; Josef Vasicek gave the Islanders a 1-0 lead with a goal that beat
Martin Brodeur at 7:55 of the first period.
Patrik Elias beat Rick DiPietro on a power-play at 10:16 to tie
the game, 1-1. Johnny Oduya and Zach Parise assisted on Elias' 17th goal
of the season.
John Madden scored a short-handed goal at 11:36 to give the
Devils their first lead of the game. Madden's 17th goal of the season
was assisted by Paul Martin.
The first period came to a close with the Devils leading the
Islanders 2-1. The Devils outshot the Islanders 13-8 in the
period.
Ruslan Fedotenko tied the game with a goal 1:53 into the second
period.
The shots were even, 9-9 in the second period, which ended with
the game tied, 2-2.
Zach Parise made it 3-2 Devils with a goal that beat DiPietro
at 2:30 of the third period. Dainius Zubrus was credited with the only
assist on Parise's 25th goal of the season.
Brian Gionta increased the Devils lead to two goals with a goal
at 4:43. Gionta's 16th goal of the season was assisted by Colin
White and Jamie Langenbrunner.
