February 18, 2008 Game 60: Devils Smack Canes Around: 5-1 Beating
The New Jersey Devils smacked the Carolina Hurricanes around with
a 5-1 victory in New Jersey on Monday, February 18, 2008.
The Devils now lead the season series 3-0, outscoring the
Hurricanes 15-3 in the three games played so far.
The Devils took an early lead when Travis Zajac beat John Grahame
just 2:02 into the first period. Dainius Zubrus and Sheldon Brookbank
assisted on Zajac's 13th goal of the season.
Mike Motta made it 2-0 Devils with a power-play goal at 7:18.
Mottau's fourth goal of the season was assisted by Travis Zajac and
Brian Gionta.
The first period ended with New Jersey leading 2-0. The
Devils outshot the Hurricanes 11-9 in the period.
Jay Pandolfo scored for New Jersey 1:08 into the second period to
increase the Devils lead to three goals. John Madden assisted on
Pandolfo's 11th goal of the season.
Jeffrey Hamilton beat Martin Brodeur at 6:17 to cut the Devils
lead to 3-1.
The Devils re-took a three goal lead when Johnny Oduya scored at
9:38. Dainius Zubrus and Brian Gionta assisted on Oduya's fourth goal of
the season.
The Devils outshot the Canes 10-7 in the second period, which
ended with New Jersey leading 4-1.
Zach Parise scored at 19:57 to finish off the pummeling of the
Carolina team. Patrik Elias and Andy Greene assisted on Parise's 23rd
goal of the season.
