April 26, 2007 R2 Game 1: Devils Rally, But Lose To Senators 4-5
The New Jersey Devils lost 4-5 at home to the Ottawa Senators
for Game 1 of Round 2 of the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs on Thursday, April 26,
2007. The Ottawa win gives the Senators a 1-0 best-of-seven series lead
over the Devils.
Jason Spezza gave the Senators an early 1-0 lead with a goal that
beat Martin Brodeur just 1:30 into the first period. Joseph Corvo added
a power-play goal at 6:49 and Dean Mcammond scored a short-handed goal at 14:43
to make it a 3 goal lead. Dany Heatly scored at 16:39 to increase
Ottawa's lead.
Travis Zajac beat Ray Emery at 17:38 to cut the Senators lead to
3 goals. Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach Parise assisted on Zajac's first
goal of the playoffs.
The Devils outshot the Senators 15-9 in the first period, but the
Senators led 4-1 when the period ended.
Brian Gionta cut the Senators lead to two goals at 2:20 of the
second period. Scott Gomez and Paul Martin assisted on Gionta's sixth
goal of this post-season.
Andy Greene cut the once commanding 4 goal Senators lead to 1
goal when his shot beat Emery at 4:57. Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach
Parise assisted on Greene's second goal of the playoffs.
The second period ended with the Senators leading the Devils
4-3. The Devils outshot the Senators 11-8 in the period.
Wade Redden scored on a power-play just 43 seconds into the third
period to give Ottawa a 5-3 lead.
Zach Parise gave the Devils late hope with a goal that got the
Devils back within one with just 30 seconds remaining in regulation time.
Scott Gomez and Brian Rafalski assisted on Parise's seventh goal of the
playoffs.
