February 24, 2007Game 62: Devils Lose Part 1 to Capitals, 2-4
The New Jersey Devils lost 2-4 at home to the Washington Capitals
on Saturday, February 24, 2007. The teams will play again Sunday at
Milan Jurcina beat Marin Brodeur at 8:43 of the first period to
give the Capitals a 1-0 lead.
The Devils outshot the Capitals 8-5 in the first period, but
trailed 0-1 on the scoreboard.
Alexander Semin scored 2:18 into the second period to make it a
2-0 Washington lead. Matt Pettinger added a short-handed goal 2:17 later
to increase the Capitals lead to 3-0.
Cam Janssen beat Brent Johnson to get the Devils on the board
with a goal at 10:33. Jay Pandolfo was credited with the only assist on
Janssen's first career NHL goal.
The Capitals outshot the Devils 18-9 and led 3-1 at the end of
the second period.
Tomas Fleischmann scored at 4:22 of the third period to make it a
4-1 Washington lead.
Jay Pandolfo gave the Devils hope with a goal at 14:02.
Pandolfo's ninth goal of the season was assisted by Erik Rasmussen and Colin
