February 16, 2007 Game 58: Devils Lose 4-5 to Penguins
The New Jersey Devils lost 4-5 at home to the Pittsburgh Penguins
on Friday, February 16, 2007.
Jarkko Ruutu beat Martin Brodeur at 3:02 of the first period to
give Pittsburgh an early 1-0 lead. Robert Scurderi made it 2-0 Penguins
with a goal at 5:19. Jordan Staal increased the Penguins lead with a
goal at 17:54
The shots were even, 10-10 in the first period, which ended with
the Penguins leading, 3-0.
Brian Rafalski beat Marc-Andre Fleury at 7:29 of the second
period to cut the Penguins lead to 2 goals. Scott Gomez and Patrik Elias
assisted on Rafalski's fifth goal of the season.
Sidney Crosby scored a power-play goal at 10:27 to give
Pittsburgh a 4-1 lead.
Patrik Elias scored a great backhand goal at 12:33 to cut their
deficit to two goals. Brian Rafalski and Scott Gomez assisted on Elias'
20th goal of the season.
Jarkko Ruuto got his second goal of the game at 16:52 to give the
Penguins a 5-2 lead.
The Devils outshot the Penguins 13-7 in the second period, which
ended with the Penguins leading 5-2.
Zach Parise scored a power-play goal at 2:48 of the third period
to cut the Penguins lead to 2 goals. Parise's 23rd goal of the season
was assisted by Jamie Langenbrunner and Paul Martin.
The Devils deficit was cut to one goal when Travis Zajac scored
on a power-play at 8:50. Sergei Brylin and Johnny Oduya assisted on
Zajac's 11th goal of the season.
