The New Jersey Devils defeated the Senators 3-2 in Ottawa on
Saturday, January 6, 2007. The Devils now lead the season series
2-1.
6:13 into the first period, Zach Parise beat Ray Emery to give
the Devils a 1-0 lead. Travis Zajac and Jamie Langenbrunner assisted on
Parise's 17th goal of the season.
Patrick Eaves tied the game with a goal that beat Martin Brodeur
at 13:51.
The Senators outshot the Devils 11-10 in the first period, which
ended with the score tied, 1-1.
Brian Gionta deflected a shot from David Hale past Emery at 1:42
of the second period. Scott Gomez also assisted on Gionta's 16th goal of
the season.
The Devils outshot the Senators 13-11 in the second
period.
Brian Gionta scored his second goal of the game at 16:27 of the
third period to give the Devils a two goal lead. Scott Gomez and Patrik
Elias assisted on the goal.
Tom Preissing gave Ottawa hope with a goal to cut the Devils lead
to one goal with 1:42 remaining.
The Senators outshot the Devils 13-6 in the third period and
35-29 in the game.
