The New Jersey Devils lost 2-3 in a shootout at home to the New
York Rangers on Tuesday, January 2, 2007. The Rangers now lead the
season series 3-1.
John Madden beat Henrik Lundqvist at 18:32 of the first period
to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Sergei Brylin and Jay Pandolfo assisted
on Madden's fourth goal of the season.
The Devils outshot the Rangers 9-5 in the first period, which
ended with the Devils leading 1-0.
Michael Nylander beat Martin Brodeur at 14:56 of the second
period on a power-play to tie the game, 1-1.
The Rangers outshot the Devils 11-6 in the second period, which
ended with the score tied, 1-1.
Petr Prucha gave the Rangers their first lead of the game with a
goal at 9:05 of the third period.
Jamie Langenbrunner tied the game with a power-play goal at 15:48
of the third period. Langenbrunner's 15th goal of the season was
assisted by Brian Gionta and Brian Rafalski.
