December 23, 2006 Game 35: Devils Fall 2-5 in Atlanta
The New Jersey Devils lost 2-5 in Atlanta to the Thrashers on
Saturday, December 23, 2006. Atlanta now leads the season series,
2-0.
Zach Parise beat Kari Lehtonen 2:19 into the first period to give
New Jersey an early 1-0 lead. Parise's 13th goal of the season was
assisted by Paul Martin.
A Thrashers goal by Steve McCarthy that beat Martin Brodeur at
6:05 tied the game, 1-1.
Parise scored his second goal of the game on a power-play at
12:20 to give New Jersey a 2-1 lead. Mike Rupp and Paul Martin assisted
on Parise's goal.
Ex-Devil Bobby Holik tied the game, 2-2 with a goal with just 33
seconds remaining in the first period.
The Devils outshot the Thrashers 14-6 in the first period, which
ended with the score tied, 2-2.
Shane Hnidy beat Brodeur at 6:42 of the second period to give
Atlanta their first lead of the game.
The Devils outshot the Thrashers 14-13 in the second period,
which ended with Atlanta leading 3-2.
Slava Kozlov gave Atlanta a two goal lead at 8:12 of the third
period.
Ilya Kovalchuk added an empty net goal with just 27 seconds
remaining to seal the win for Atlanta.
