The New Jersey Devils beat the Capitals 4-1 in Washington on
Friday, December 22, 2006.
The Capitals outshot the Devils 11-8 in the first period, which
ended with the game scoreless.
5:31 into the second period, Travis Zajac beat Brent Johnson with
a power-play goal to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Zajac's seventh goal of
the season was assisted by Zach Parise and Sergei Brylin.
Chris Clark tied the game with a goal that beat Martin Brodeur at
Patrik Elias gave the Devils a 2-1 lead at 18:54. Elias'
13th goal of the season was assisted by Brad Lukowich and Brian
The Caps outshot the Devils 12-9 in the second period.
Brian Gionta made it 3-1 with a goal at 4:51 of the third period.
Scott Gomez and Patrik Elias assisted on Gionta's 14th goal of the
Zach Parise added a power-play goal at 9:52 to make it a 3 goal
Devils lead. Sergei Brylin and Paul Martin assisted on Parise's 12th
goal of the season.
The Devils were outshot 13-7 in the third period and 36-24 in the
game, but won the game 4-1.
