October 21, 2006 Game 8: Senators Destroy Devils 8-1
The New Jersey Devils were crushed 8-1 by the Senators in Ottawa
on Saturday, October 21, 2006. Ottawa's win was their first on home ice
this season.
Jason Spezza beat Martin Brodeur at 9:06 of the first period on a
power-play to give Ottawa a 1-0 lead.
Brian Gionta tied the game when he beat Ray Emery at 14:17 of the
first period. Zach Parise assisted on Gionta's seventh goal of the
season.
Dany Heatley deflected the puck past Brodeur at 16:05 to regain
the lead for the Senators.
The Senators outshot the Devils 11-6 in the first period, which
ended with Ottawa leading, 2-1.
Antoine Vermette scored at 7:36 of the second period to make it
3-1 Ottawa. The Senators took a 3 goal lead just 50 seconds later when
Joseph Corvo beat Martin Brodeur.
Tom Preissing beat Brodeur at 13:25 and Antoine Vermette got his
second goal of the game at 13:57 to increase the Senators lead to 6-1.
Martin Brodeur was pulled from the Devils goal after Vermette's
goal. Scott Clemmensen replaced Brodeur in net.
Dean McAmmond beat Clemmensen at 19:03 to make it a 7-1 Ottawa
lead.
The second period ended with Ottawa leading the Devils, 7-1.
The Senators outshot the Devils 17-16 in the period.
McAmmond scored again at 4:41 of the third period to give Ottawa
a 8-1 lead.
