October 18, 2006 Game 6: Devils Beat Penguins 2-1
The New Jersey Devils beat the Penguins, 2-1 in Pittsburgh on
Wednesday, October 18, 2006. The win increased the Devils record to
4-2.
There was no scoring in the first period, in which the Penguins
outshot the Devils 11-10.
Jay Pandolfo scored his first goal of the season that beat
Marc-Andre Fleury at 3:18 of the second period. Pandolfo's goal was
assisted by Sergei Brylin and John Madden.
Evgeni Malkin slapped a puck Martin Brodeur had covered (the
whistle was not blown) into the net to tie the game, 1-1.
The Devils outshot the Penguins 20-11 in the second period, which
ended with the game tied, 1-1.
Jamie Langenbrunner beat Fleury at 9:12 of the third period to
give New Jersey a 2-1 lead. Langenbrunner's third goal of the season was
assisted by Patrik Elias and Scott Gomez.
The Penguins outshot the Devils 16-4 in the third period and
38-34 in the game.
