The New Jersey Devils shutdown the Rangers, 3-0 in New York on
Wednesday, April 26, 2006 for Game 3 of the first round of the Stanley Cup
Playoffs. The shutout was the 21st playoff shutout for Martin
Brodeur. The Devils take a 3-0 series lead and have an opportunity to
sweep the series at 3:00PM on Saturday.
Jamie Langenbrunner scored his second goal of the playoffs just
1:08 into the first period to give the Devils an early 1-0 lead. Patrik
Elias and Brian Rafalski assisted on Langenbrunner's goal.
Patrik Elias beat Henrik Lundqvist at 9:20 to increase the Devils
lead to 2 goals. Jamie Langenbrunner and David Hale assisted on Elias'
third goal of the playoffs.
The Rangers outshot the Devils 11-7, but the Devils led 2-0 on
the scoreboard at the end of the first period.
2:48 into the second period, Zach Parise scored his first career
playoff goal. Parise's goal was assisted by Brian Gionta and Scott
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Rangers,
3-0. The Rangers outshot the Devils 8-6 in the period.
The Devils outshot the Rangers 7-6, but there was no scoring in
the third period. The game ended with the Devils winning 3-0.
