The New Jersey Devils took a 1-0 series lead over the New York
Rangers with a commanding 6-1 win at home on Saturday, April 22, 2006.
Game 2 of the quarter-final series will be played on Monday at 7:00PM.
Patrik Elias gave the Devils an early 1-0 lead with a power-play
goal at 3:55 of the first period. Elias' first goal of the playoffs was
assisted by Scott Gomez and Jamie Langenbrunner.
Petr Prucha tied the game with a power-play goal that beat Martin
Brodeur at the 10:00 mark of the first period.
The score was even, 1-1 at the end of the first period, in which
the Rangers outshot the Devils, 12-10.
Scott Gomez regained the Devils lead with a power-play goal that
beat Henrik Lundqvist at 7:48 of the second period. Gomez's first goal
of the post-season was assisted by Brian Gionta and Patrik Elias.
Ken Klee made it a 3-1 Devils lead with a goal at 17:10.
Klee's first goal of the playoffs was assisted by Patrik Elias and Scott
The Rangers outshot the Devils, 10-9 in the second period, but
the Devils led 3-1.
53 seconds into the third period, Brian Rafalski gave the Devils
a 4-1 lead with a power-play goal. Rafalski's goal was assisted by
Patrik Elias and Brian Gionta.
Jamie Langenbrunner beat Lundqvist at 8:45 on a power-play to
give the Devils a 4 goal lead. Patrik Elias and Brian Gionta assisted
on Langenbrunner's goal.
Patrik Elias scored his second goal of the game at 15:34 on
another power-play to make it a 6-1 Devils lead. Elias' goal was
assisted by Jamie Langenbrunner and Scott Gomez.
