April 01, 2006 Game 74: Devils Beat Flyers 4-1
The New Jersey Devils beat the Flyers 4-1 in Philadelphia
on Saturday, April 1, 2006.
John Madden scored the 100th goal of his career at 4:33 of the
first period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Grant Marshall was credited
with the only assist on Madden's 15th goal of the season.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Flyers, 1-0.
The Flyers outshot the Devils 10-8 in the period.
Scott Gomez beat Antero Niittymaki at 14:07 of the second period
to give New Jersey a 2-0 lead. Brian Gionta and Zach Parise assisted on
Gomez's 27th goal of the season.
Jason Wiemer scored just 1:20 after Gionta's goal to increase the
Devils lead. Wiemer's second goal of the season was assisted by Brian
Gionta.
The Devils outshot the Flyers 13-9 in the second period which
ended with the Devils leading 3-0.
Simon Gagne ruined Martin Brodeur's shutout bid with a
power-play goal at 3:44 of the third period.
Sergei Brylin scored a great goal to give the Devils a 4-1 lead
at 16:18 of the third period. Brylin's 13th goal of the season was
assisted by Patrik Elias and Jamie Langenbrunner.
The game ended with the Devils defeating the Flyers, 4-1.
The Flyers outshot the Devils 15-10 in the third period and 34-31 in the
game.
