The New Jersey Devils beat the Boston Bruins, 4-2 at home after
honoring Ken Daneyko by retiring his #3 on Friday, March 24, 2006.
Scott Gomez, sporting a visor after suffering a scratched cornea
in the prior night's game, blasted the puck past Andrew Raycroft just 44
seconds into the first period to give the Devils an early 1-0 lead. Paul
Martin and Zach Parise assisted on Gomez's 25th goal of the season.
Brian Gionta increased the Devils lead to 2 goals on a power-play
at 3:41. Gionta's 39th goal of the season was assisted by Jamie
Langenbrunner and Scott Gomez.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Bruins,
2-0. The Devils outshot the Bruins 10-5 in the period.
Zach Parise made it a 3-0 Devils lead with a goal that took
Raycroft out of the game at 11:31 of the second period. Paul Martin and
Erik Rasmussen assisted on Parise's 10th goal of the season.
Glen Murray ruined Scott Clemmensen's shutout bid, beating him at
19:06 of the second period.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Bruins,
3-1. The Bruins outshot the Devils 13-8 in the period.
Paul Martin banked the puck off the boards at center ice -- the
puck slid past Boston netminder Tim Thomas at 7:32 of the third period to give
New Jersey a 4-1 lead. Colin White was credited with an assist on
Martin's 5th goal of the season.
Brad Isbister scored for the Bruins with 45 seconds left, but the
outcome (Devils win) had already been decided.
