March 07, 2006 Game 62: Devils Fall to Islanders: 2-1 Shootout Loss
The New Jersey Devils lost 2-1 in a shootout to the Islanders in
New York on Tuesday, March 7, 2006.
The Islanders outshot the Devils 10-5 in the first period, but
neither team was able to score a goal.
Jamie Langenbrunner beat Rick DiPietro at 6:11 of the second
period on a power-play to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Brian Rafalski and
Zach Parise assisted on Langenbrunner's 14th goal of the season.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Islanders,
1-0. The Devils outshot the Islanders 13-5 in the period.
Mark Parrish beat Martin Brodeur at 4:44 of the third period to
tie the game, 1-1.
Regulation time ended with the score tied, 1-1. Neither
team managed to score in the overtime period, thus forcing a shootout.
