March 04, 2006 Game 61: Devils Defeat Rangers 2-1
The New Jersey Devils defeated the New York Rangers, 2-1 at home
on Saturday, March 4, 2006.
Scott Gomez beat Kevin Weekes at 17:19 of the first period to
give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Brian Gionta was credited with the only
assist on Gomez's 22nd goal of the season.
The first period ended with the Devils leading, 1-0. The
Devils outshot the Rangers, 9-5 in the period.
Martin Rucinsky beat Martin Brodeur just 1:17 into the second
period to tie the game, 1-1.
Brian Gionta gave the lead back to the Devils with a power-play
goal at 10:27. Scott Gomez and Zach Parise assisted on Gionta's 34th
goal of the season.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Rangers, 2-1.
The Rangers outshot the Devils 10-7 in the period.
There was no scoring in the third period, the game ended with the
Devils winning, 2-1.
