March 02, 2006Game 60: Devils Fall to Islanders, 3-2 in Shootout
The New Jersey Devils lost 3-2 to the Islanders in New York in a
shootout on Thursday, March 2, 2006.
There was no scoring in the first period, in which the Islanders
outshot the Devils 13-10.
Brent Sopel beat Martin Brodeur on a power-play at 8:35 of the
second period to give Long Island a 1-0 lead.
Scott Gomez put the puck past Rick DiPietro at 9:53 to tie the
game, 1-1. Brian Gionta and Sean Brown assisted on Gomez's 21st goal
of the season.
Jason Blake put the Islanders back on top with a power-play goal
at 12:20 of the second period.
The second period ended with the Islanders leading the Devils,
2-1. The Islanders outshot the Devils 12-6 in the period.
Jay Pandolfo tied the game with his 9th goal of the season at
8:45 of the third period. Brian Rafalski and John Madden assisted on the
The third period ended with the game tied, 2-2. The Isles
outshot the Devs 11-10 in the third period.
Neither team was able to score in the overtime period.
None of the Devils shooters were able to beat Rick DiPietro in the shootout,
while Satan & Hunter were able to beat Martin Brodeur.
