March 01, 2006 Game 59: Devils Beat Flyers: 2-1 Shootout Victory
The New Jersey Devils beat the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 at home
in a shootout on Wednesday, March 1, 2006.
Viktor Kozlov beat Robert Esche at 11:59 of the first period to
give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Brian Gionta was credited with the only
assist on Kozlov's 12th goal of the season.
The Devils outshot the Flyers, 8-7 in the first period, which
ended with the Devils leading 1-0.
Brian Savage beat Martin Brodeur 8:23 into the second period to
tie the game, 1-1. The Flyers outshot the Devils 14-6 in the second,
which ended with the game tied.
There was no scoring in the third period or in the 5 minute
overtime period, so the game was decided in a shootout. Viktor Kozlov
beat Esche in shootout, while Martin Brodeur stopped all 3 Philadelphia
shots.
