January 13, 2006 Game 44: Devils Sink Canucks 3-0; Winning Streak at 5 Games
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Vancouver Canucks, 3-0 at home
on Friday, January 13, 2006. The shutout was Martin Brodeur's third of
the season (78th of his career). The win increased the Devils winning
streak to 5 games.
The first period ended with the game scoreless. The
Cancucks outshot the Devils 13-11 in the period.
There was no scoring in the second period, the Devils outshot the
Canucks 7-6 in the period.
Viktor Kozlov beat Alexander Auld at 2:31 into the third period
on a power-play to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Sergei Brylin and Paul
Martin assisted on Kozlov's 10th goal of the season.
Brian Gionta added a power-play goal at 6:38 to increase the
Devils lead. Scott Gomez and Brian Rafalski assisted on Gionta's 24th
goal of the season.
Gionta added an empty net goal with 1:53 remaining in regulation
time to seal the Devils win. Zach Parise and Brian Rafalski assisted on
Gionta's second goal of the game.
