The New Jersey Devils beat the Sabres, 3-2 in Buffalo
on Saturday, January 7, 2006.
Maxim Afinogenov beat Martin Brodeur on a power-play at 17:22 of
the first period to give the Sabres a 1-0 lead.
Jamie Langenbrunner beat Sabres netminder Ryan Miller with just
44 seconds remaining in the period to tie the game. Langenbrunner's
seventh goal of the season was assisted by John Madden and Paul Martin.
The shots were even, 8-8, as was the score, 1-1 when the first
Brian Rafalski beat Miller 2:36 into the second period to give
the Devils a 2-1 lead. John Madden and and Jay Pandolfo assisted on
Rafalski's fifth goal of the season.
Scott Gomez increased the Devils lead at the 6:01 mark of the
second period. Patrik Elias and Brian Rafalski assisted on Gomez's 16th
goal of the season.
The Devils outshot the Sabres 12-5 and led 3-1 on the scoreboard
at the end of the second period.
Thomas Vanek gave the Sabres hope, beating Brodeur with just 1:48
remaining in the third period.
The Sabres outshot the Devils 15-7 in the third period, but could
not outscore then in the game - the Devils won, 3-2.
