January 03, 2006 Game 40: Devils Beat Panthers 3-0 In Elias's Return
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Florida Panthers, 3-0 at home
on Tuesday, January 3, 2006.
Brian Gionta beat Roberto Luongo with a great top-shelf goal at
9:57 of the first period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Scott Gomez and
Richard Matvichuk assisted on Gionta's 22nd goal of the season.
The Devils outshot the Panthers 7-3 in the first period, which
ended with the Devils leading, 1-0.
Brian Gionta scored his second goal of the game at 12:25 of the
second period, with Patrik Elias and Scott Gomez assisting on the goal.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Panthers,
2-0. The Devils outshot the Panthers, 12-11 in the period.
Jamie Langenbrunner capped off the scoring with a goal at 17:25
of the third period. Langenbrunner's sixth goal of the season was
assisted by Paul Martin.
The Devils outshot the Panthers 6-2 in the third period and 25-16
in the game.
