December 26, 2005 Game 36: Maple Leafs Beat Devils 2-1
The New Jersey Devils lost 2-1 in Toronto to the Maple
Leafs on Monday, December 26, 2005.
John Madden made a great deflection that beat Eddie Belfour at
3:59 of the first period to give the Devils an early 1-0 lead. Paul
Martin and Richard Matvichuk assisted on Madden's sixth goal of the
season.
Mats Sundin beat Martin Brodeur at 13:35 to tie the game,
1-1. Bryan McCabe gave the Maple Leafs the lead with a goal on a
power-play at 16:20.
The first period ended with the Leafs leading the Devils, 2-1.
The Devils outshot Toronto 11-8 in the period.
Cam Janssen had a nice fight with Darcy Tucker about mid-way
through the second period - for which Tucker was assessed a 5 minute match
penalty because he struck Janssen twice with his helmut.
There was no scoring in the second period, and the Devils were
outshot by the Leafs 13-5 - even with a full 5 minute power-play.
The third period ended with the score the same, but the Devils
outshot the Leafs 18-6 in the period.
