December 19, 2005 Vladimir Malakhov Retires; McGillis, Albelin, and Elias Return
Defenseman Vladimir Malakhov retired and Dan McGillis returned to
the Devils lineup on Monday, December 19, 2005. Malakhov's retirement
helps clear salary cap room for Patrik Elias's return. McGillis had been
waived, but he had not yet reported to the Albany River Rats.
Patrik Elias took part in his first practice with the team after
missing the entire beginning of the season while recovering from
hepatitis.
Veteran defenseman Tommy Albelin is also being brought back to
help bolster the Devils blueline.
