December 11, 2005 Game 29: Devils Fall To Blue Jackets 3-2 In Overtime
The New Jersey Devils lost 3-2 in overtime to the Blue Jackets
in Columbus on Sunday, December 11, 2005.
Paul Martin beat Marc Denis at 10:36 of the first period to give
the Devils a 1-0 lead. Jamie Langenbrunner and Grant Marshall assisted
on Martin's first goal of the season.
Columbus outshot New Jersey 10-7 in the first period, but the
period ended with the Devils leading 1-0.
Nikolai Zherdev tied the game by beating Martin Brodeur at 11:03
of the second period.
Brian Gionta beat Denis at 16:54 to regain the lead for the
Devils. Gionta's 18th goal of the season was assisted by Scott
Gomez.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Blue Jackets,
2-1. Columbus outshot the Devils 15-10 in the period.
Zherdev scored his second goal of the game on a power-play at
4:35 of the third period.
Regulation time ended with the score tied, 2-2. The Blue
Jackets outshot the Devils 13-11 in the third period.
Bryan Berard beat Martin Brodeur with just 14 seconds remaining
in the overtime to win the game for Columbus.
