November 12, 2005 Game 17: Devils Defeat Washington 3-2
The New Jersey Devils beat the Washington Capitals 4-3 at home
on Saturday, November 12, 2005 - the second half of a home-and-home
series.
Vladimir Malakhov blasted the puck past Brent Johnson at 13:27 of
the first period on a 5 on 3 power-play. Malakhov's fourth goal of the
season was assisted by Paul Martin and Brian Gionta.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Capitals, 1-0.
The Devils were outshot 8-7, but won 65% of the faceoffs in the
period.
Jamie Langenbrunner slapped a rebound into the Capitals net to
increase the Devils lead at 2:52 of the second period on a power-play.
Brian Gionta and Scott Gomez assisted on Langenbrunner's fourth goal of the
season.
Matt Bradley beat Martin Brodeur just 1:10 later to cut the
Devils advantage to one goal. Brian Sutherby tied the game with a goal
at 6:55.
Grant Marshall got a power-play goal at 15:17 to regain the lead
for the Devils. Marshall's second goal of the season was assisted by
Scott Gomez and Jamie Langenbrunner.
The Devils led 3-2 after 2 periods. The Devils outshot
Washington 11-10 in the second period.
There was no scoring in the third period, in which the Devils
held the Caps to 2 shots (Devils outshot the Capitals 28-20 in the
game).
