November 05, 2005 Game 14: Rangers Beat Devils 3-2 in Shootout
The New Jersey Devils lost to the Rangers in a shootout, 3-2 in
New York on Saturday, November 5, 2005.
The first period ended with no scoring. The Devils outshot
the Rangers 10-8 in the period.
Brian Gionta tipped the puck blasted by Sean Brown past Kevin
Weekes at 1:40 of the first period on a 5 on 3 power-play. Gionta's
eighth goal was the Devils first 5 on 3 goal of the season. Brian
Rafalski also assisted on the goal.
Brian Gionta made it a 2-0 Devils lead with a great wrist shot
that beat Weekes at 9:50. Gionta's second goal of the game was
unassisted.
Petr Prucha took a rocket of a pass from Jaromir Jagr and put it
past Scott Clemmensen at 16:28 of the second period to cut the Devils lead to
one goal. The goal was scored on the third Rangers 5 on 3 power-play
opportunity in the game.
The second period finished with the Devils leading the Rangers,
2-1. The Rangers outshot the Devils 11-7 in the period.
Blair Betts beat Clemmensen at 10:18 to tie the game, 2-2.
Regulation time ended with the game tied, 2-2. There was
no scoring in the overtime period, so the game went to a shootout.
Prucha got the winning goal to make it a 3-2 Rangers win.
Dan McGillis was a healthy scratch as Colin White returned to the
lineup. Cam Janssen made his NHL debut after being called up and Thomas
Pihlman was returned to Albany.
